Bywong strengthen their Peruvian genetics
Canchones Shogun has been added to Bywong's stable of imported Peruvian solid black huacaya males.
Shogun was selected in Peru in 2004 from the herd of Porfirio Diaz. Since his arrival in Australia, Shogun has sired many elite black huacayas.
His progeny have been very successful in the show ring and many of his progeny have been selected and exported overseas.
With Bywong's other Peruvian males, Gendarme, Cassiano and Hannibal, they are able to offer females mated to a selection of elite genetics.
We look forward to working with Vicki Hilder of Bywong in continuing to improve the quality of Black huacaya in Australia

Supreme Suri at the Royal Canberra Show 2010
Peter had the opportunity of working with Kylie Martin at the recent Canberra Royal Show.
Peter and Kylie, judged all entries together. With 220 fleeces and over 300 alpaca exhibits in the halter section, it was a busy 4 days.
It was pleasing to see the quality of the entries overall.

Data Collection and Anaysis Presentation for the Eastern Region
At the recent meeting of the Victorian Eastern Region, Robert presented information on data collection to assist breeders in managing their alpaca herd, breeding decisions and sales strategy.
Canchones has been collecting data on their alpaca herd since the purchase of their first alpacas in 1998. This data is now very comprehensive and during the presentation Robert presented various case studies showing how this data has impacted their animal care, breeding decisions, sales pricing and strategies.
Members were also able to see Canchones farm layout, data collection methodology and computer software.

Kilnwood Drago and Canchones Drago

Drago competing at Greater Tew
In November we were lucky enough to see an elite eventing horse owned by Mandy Wilson of Kilnwood Alpaca competing at Greater Tew. He is a exceptional looker and performer.
We liked the name, Drago, and ask Mandy if we could use it when we had a male of sufficient quality to carry the "Drago" name.
Canchones Drago has been registered. He is a blue black suri male for Canchones Cabaret and Canchones Vertigo.
For us " Drago" represents the best.

Shearing at Canchones

Canchones Shearing Team
In 2009 at Canchones, we had an international flavour to our shearing team. Robert and Peter would like to thank them all for their friendship and assistance.
The weather was against us with 4 days of non stop rain, but with grim determination, we managed to get through 330 alpacas in 3 days.
As usual our shearer Eddie Dunham (representing the USA and Western Australia) was the centre of attention.
We also had the able assistance of the following
- Beryl and John Kennedy (Peter's parents)
- Peter and Senga Hately of Willowdale alpacas - Victoria
- Trish Munley of Tyaak Park alpacas - Victoria
- Graeme Meyer of Icon Alpacas- Victoria
- Keith and Isi Cameron of Keis alpacas - Western Australia
- Joy and Robbie Vassallo of Eumana alpacas - Victoria
- Karen and John McLaughlin of Lowanna alpacas - Victoria
- Robert Benz of Alpaca Village - Germany
- Wolfgang Eckardt of Goldener Stern alpacas - Germany
